While common in the past, it’s rare anymore that I read a book in one sitting, but Erin Sterling’s The Ex Hex is one of those books. My daughter received the book as part of a book box, and the cover intrigued me, so I picked it up. I was hooked after the opening line: “Never mix vodka and witchcraft.”
I tried to purchased this book from the airport on my recent trip, but it was sold out, so when I returned home, I borrowed the book from Em.
It took less than 5 hours to read the whole thing…and what a ride. Sterling’s tale is funny, sexy, and threaded through with magic, family, and desire–all things I love.

Vivienne is fully fleshed and plausibly flawed, Rhys, though a classic romance hero in looks and attitude, he is also thoroughly charming. Her quirky cousin Gwen is my favorite of all the characters.
Above all, I love how Sterling ups the ante in delightfully quirky ways, frequently making my laugh out loud. If you’re looking for a lighthearted, sexy, very hot read, this is your book.
Here’s the blurb:
Nine years ago, Vivienne Jones nursed her broken heart like any young witch would: vodka, weepy music, bubble baths…and a curse on the horrible boyfriend. Sure, Vivi knows she shouldn’t use her magic this way, but with only an “orchard hayride” scented candle on hand, she isn’t worried it will cause him anything more than a bad hair day or two.
That is until Rhys Penhallow, descendent of the town’s ancestors, breaker of hearts, and annoyingly just as gorgeous as he always was, returns to Graves Glen, Georgia. What should be a quick trip to recharge the town’s ley lines and make an appearance at the annual fall festival turns disastrously wrong. With one calamity after another striking Rhys, Vivi realizes her silly little Ex Hex may not have been so harmless after all.
Suddenly, Graves Glen is under attack from murderous wind-up toys, a pissed off ghost, and a talking cat with some interesting things to say. Vivi and Rhys have to ignore their off the charts chemistry to work together to save the town and find a way to break the break-up curse before it’s too late.
