I recently put myself into time out.
There are lots of reasons for this. No, I did not try to flush the cat, draw on my sister, or write on the walls, the usual reasons for time out. I went into time out because I needed it. 2020 was…well, you know. You were there.
Like just about everyone else on the planet, I had secretly hoped that on New Year’s Eve at the stroke of midnight, 2021 would bring its badass self in and undo all the damage of the previous year, kicking out COVID, a crap economy, and all around sucky people.
Alas, that did not happen. In fact, 2021 brought its badass self in here and asked 2020 to hold its proverbial beer.
But I spent my time playing with the puppy and wishing for snow. I plotted new works and regrouped my spirit. New mittens were made and a baby quilt completed (for a friend. Calm yourself. The mittens were for me, though.)
Most of all, I tried to detach myself from the world that is all too much with us, not to ignore it. That’s impossible, but I made sure to not let the unceasing drumbeat of bad news become my heartbeat.
And now it’s time to get out there swinging, verbally, because that’s my jam.
And here’s a doggo and pupper in the snow. We could all use a little more joy like this in our lives.
