So, where does a writer get her ideas?
I don’t know. Seriously. I haven’t a clue, but I do listen to a metric frack-ton of music, and that always plays a role. It definitely does for Inferno.
Each of the chapters in Inferno has a line from Dante’s work as a chapter title. In the original draft, there is also a modern quote that acts as a secondary, balancing title. Or, to put it another way, the second title helps explain the sometimes ambiguous language of Dante.
Like many writers, I am enamored with music. I can’t actually listen while I write. It’s too distracting, but I do use it while I plan, plot, and outline. Everything I write has at least one song associated with it. Some a a whole playlist. Spotify is my new best friend.
So put on your headphones, crank it up, and get into Rose’s head.
